The Akoya Mini E1312, An AMD-based Netbook

We have heard of many netbooks to date that are powered by the Intel Atom processor, but Medion has decided to use an AMD processor in its new netbook, the Akoya Mini E1312.

The Akoya is a 11.6″ netbook with screen resolution of 1366×768. This netbook is powered by a 1.5GHz AMD Sempron 210U processor, M690E chipset, and ATI radeon Xpress 1250 graphics chipset. It will run on the Windows XP operating system.

Other tech specs of this machine are pretty standard. The Mini E1312 includes three USB ports, a 3-in-1 card reader, Bluetooth, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/draft-n, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam.

The standard Akoya comes with a 6-cell battery pack, but there is the option to upgrade to a 9-cell battery. The default battery is expected to last for a bit over three hours. Not too impressive, considering that some other netbooks, like.

Currently, there’s no information on when this netbook will be available in the United States, but it will be available in Aldi stores in the United Kingdom starting on July 12th. The netbook will be available in either black or white and will have a price tag of £339.99 (roughly $550). Hefty price tag? Yeah, a little bit, but at least these netbooks come with three year warranties.
